Mold Design Engineer

Position Summary: Designer of Molds and Equipment for Tire Manufacturing

Reports to: Lead Engineer

Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Participate in new product design activities from initial concept through prototype manufacturing, and release for mass production.

  • Production of 2D drafts for supply as specifications to mold vendors, primarily using AutoCAD, knowledge of Catia V4 and/or Catia V5 or SolidWorks desirable

  • Production of 2D drafts of tire construction details primarily using AutoCAD

  • Design of 3D tire tread patterns in Catia V5 for incorporation into mold design using solid modelling and surfacing

  • Be committed and promote adherence to all internal and external compliance standards, including TS16949, ISO9001 and ISO14001.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BS or AAS with experience in related field (preferably engineering) or Technical Certification in Design/Drafting. Equivalent experience in lieu of degree may be considered

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a production Design Drafting environment with a proven track record using AutoCAD/Autodesk CAD environment

  • The use of AutoCAD custom macros and LISP routines desirable

  • The ability to provide work in a timely fashion to meet production deadlines

  • Experienced in creating manufacturing drawings to ANSI/JIS Standards, with a strong emphasis in the use of metric dimensioning and tolerancing

  • Experienced in the issuance of Engineering Change Orders and subsequent archival recordkeeping practices to stated company standards

  • Experience in the design of Mold Tooling, Machine Tooling and Dies desirable

  • CatiaV4, CatiaV5 or SolidWorks experience desirable but not mandatory

  • Three (3) years product design experience preferred

  • Proven team-player

  • Excellent organization and project management skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office suite and project software applications
