Raw Materials Manager

Reports to: Mixing and Stock Prep Business Center Manager

Position Summary: Coordinates with Purchasing, Logistics, Production Control, Operations and external vendors for the sourcing and receiving of materials required for production. Manage the movement of raw materials from multiple sites and warehouses into the manufacturing facility. Manage raw materials inventory levels at multiple locations ensuring proper levels are maintained to support production throughout the facility. Manage the distribution of raw materials throughout the facility and to the production floor.

Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Develop departmental KPI’s and metrics, monitor production results against metrics (supplier scorecard, inventory management) and hold departmental staff accountable to these metrics.

  • Manage and continuously improve cost effective systems for delivery of raw materials into the plant for production demands. Manage the workforce receiving goods into the plant and ensure accuracy and quality.

  • Develop, implement and improve processes, procedures and tools to streamline and more efficiently manage inventory levels ensuring the plant does not run out of raw materials.

  • Manage, coach and develop both hourly and salary staff within the Raw Materials department on all four (4) shifts. Provide managerial direction and control of the material receiving docks to ensure efficient operation of all terminal activities.

  • Manage and maintain physical inventory on all raw materials (on site and off site) and prevent all raw material outages to ensure continuous plant operation. Identify, investigate and determine root cause of material consumption variations and develop action plans to eliminate root cause issues.
  • Partner with plant leadership related to procuring and tracking new materials, trials or substitutions.

  • Partner with third party vendors and transportation services for inbound and outbound deliveries.

  • Manage inventory costs and production requirements.

  • Ensure all regulations and Company policies are followed to create a safe and clean work environment.

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • BA/BS in Supply Chain Management or related discipline, experience in lieu of degree considered. MBA or other related graduate degree preferred.

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience working in materials, logistics, or related management function.

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience with computer application systems related to inventory, distribution, shipping or receiving (SAP experience ideal).
  • Flexibility in schedule availability is required to support continuous operations, including nights and weekends.

  • Requires the demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills. Knowledge of HR functions, safety, budgets.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others.

  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Demonstrated PC skills utilizing Microsoft Excel, Word and Access software applications.

  • Experience in working across divisions and with external organizations.
