Mold and Diaphragm Changer
Essential Functions/Duties: 
  • Removes tire molds from presses and installs replacements
  • Cleans press platens of rust and serial tags
  • When preparing press to run from single to double or from double to single, removes diaphragms from center cylinders of presses and installs new ones
  • Blocks off or unblocks press
  • Prior to press being used, lubricates and sprays radial bags with proper bladder release as per current procedures and flexes new diaphragms
  • After installation of new diaphragms, A “New Bladder Installation Card” is placed on the press. The first shaping pressure is increased by (4) lb. and then the necessary data is entered into the card. After (5) rounds, the pressure is returned to its original setting and the data that is required is completed onto the card. This procedure is followed on all presses that require pressure changes
  • The press is adjusted for proper squeeze, valves checked to ensure proper operation and (if necessary) inform a Mechanic of any need for repair or adjustment
  • All of the essential information is recorded on the diaphragm and cure cards and the cure card is then signed
  • The proper identification tags are placed at the press and on the handling equipment as required by current procedures
  • New diaphragms are made by assembling in the rings
  • Responsible for changes of post inflation rings, green tire hats, ram stroke, bead spread, and spacers. Responsible for adjustments to loader, table rollers, ram, mold wash and air lines, roller guides for post inflation units and other incidental mechanical work associated with a complete mold change
  • Assemble & disassemble segmented molds
  • Using a drill, cleans out all vents before replacing the diaphragm
  • Uses truck as necessary to expedite work. Transports, loads and unloads molds, diaphragms and/or containers both within and outside the department
  • Assists in the lubrication and cleaning of equipment & tooling as required
  • Using required screws, attaches serial number and any other required metal tags to all curing molds
  • Installs and removes sector heads from molds and changes rings and plates in sector heads
  • Preheats diaphragms and molds after installation
  • Uses various wrenches, hammers, pliers, pinch bars, lubricating equipment and portable grinders required to complete the various tasks involved
  • Performs all duties in a neat and orderly manner to maintain safe and good housekeeping conditions within the department
Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Job-Specific physical work capabilities
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug test
  • Must qualify on 2 (two) written pre-employment tests
  • At least two (2) years of continuous employment
  • Must be willing to work all shifts (nights, weekends, holidays, and fluctuating shifts)
Work Environment:
  • The job is within a heavy industrial environment and you may be required to work within various areas of the factory
  • The position requires you to work a continuous operation, which will include Saturdays and Sundays. The position also requires you to work overtime as needed
  • This facility requires that you wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This includes steel toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection and hat
